European Commission Publishes eHealth Report

The European Commission has published a pan-European survey on electronic services in healthcare (e-health) that shows 87 per cent of European doctors (general practitioners) use a computer, 48 per cent with a broadband connection.
The survey, called ‘Benchmarking ICT use among General Practitioners in Europe,’ also found that about 70 per cent of European doctors use the internet and 66 per cent use computers for consultations.
Denmark has the highest broadband penetration among General Practitioners (91 per cent) and Romania has the lowest (about 5 per cent). [Via]

Microsoft Launches eGovernment Platform

Microsoft has announced the worldwide availability its Citizen Service Platform (CSP) along with free templates to help customers implement technological solutions to some of the most common issues governments face.
The company announced that the CSP application framework is designed to help governments of all sizes to responsively deliver services to citizens via the internet.
The CSP, a culmination of Microsoft’s partnerships, programmes and projects conducted with governments over several years, was developed based on challenges faced by diverse government offices and different regions worldwide, the company said. [Via]

CFP – Third GigaNet Annual Symposium

The Global Internet Governance Academic Network (GigaNet) is a scholarly community that promotes the development of Internet governance as a recognized, interdisciplinary field of study and facilitates informed dialogue on policy issues and related matters between scholars and governments, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.
The third GigaNet Annual Symposium will be held on December 2, 2008, in Hyderabad, India, the day before the 3rd IGF meeting. Attendance at the Symposium will be open to all and free of charge. The Symposium will be at the same location as the IGF and registration with the UN as an IGF participant may be necessary to gain entry to the building.
